Teaching

The are so many kids in the UK that have got certain behavioural disabilities for which they have to attend special needs schools for. However, sometimes, the approach taken to instruct these types of students is probably the approach that can be used to instruct everyone regardless of the disability.

One way to go about this is by looking at the positive things that students do in class rather than the negative things. For example, if the students work is of a very high standard but you find that the students always a nuisance during lessons, then maybe informing them of the high standard of work they are producing will prompt them to work even harder during lessons and try to exceed any expectations that instructors and the students themselves have about their abilities.

I think that if instructors can look at developing and improving their teaching methods and strategies, they can certainly utilise the strengths of their students and enhance the entire learning experience for everyone.

As they say, just because a student is already doing so well in their learning, it doesn’t mean that they can’t do superior and develop themselves further.

Also, some instructors believe that once the student has reached a “Grade A” for their work, then that is the end of the road. However, that is not the case, because by receiving a “Grade A” in coursework and exams, does not mean that you will receive a “Grade A” in the work you produce for clients in the working world of business. This is not just a text book theory but something that has actually been experienced by many students, especially those that actually take an industrial experience year as part of their degree and attempt to submit work finished as part of the industrial year towards their degree.

I certainly feel that by looking at how you can alter the activity of a student using their strengths, you can truly tap into a new era of teaching methods to encourage creativity and motivation where students of all capabilities can benefit.

1. A passion for travel

I have always wanted to experience the world and live in a non English talking country. TEFL seems like a perfect opportunity to do this while meeting new people, teaching, and enjoying life! Stephen Kiernan

I wanted to travel and feel secure that I could get a job in most places that I go to, so I wouldn’t have to worry about money, which most people travelling do.

Caroline Leahy

2. Immersion in other cultures

I have always been in full time education and went straight into work after university, so the opportunity to travel long-term and experience a new culture never really came along for me. Working abroad will give me the chance to finally fulfil this ambition. Charlotte Glover

I have always considered going on an exciting journey but didn’t fancy the conventional ‘gap year, trip round the world’. I believe you can only get to know another place and culture by living and working there for a while, and TEFL hands you the opportunity on a plate.

I’m looking forward to putting my qualification to good use next year! Lucy Clark

3. A total change

I’ve been working my way travelling in Europe for over 10 years, and I needed a change. I feel that when you are teaching abroad you acquire a sense of freedom and variety and I just felt I needed a change from the usual 9 to 5 job! Luz Valencia Chisnall

I got married, got divorced, lost all my money. Needed a new begin in life. Carl Symes

I found I had no interest in my job anymore and wanted a change. I looked into a TEFL qualification and thought “I’ve got nothing to loose and everything to gain” and here I am 12 months later TEFL qualified, I just can’t move to get out there teaching – give it a try! Laura Wilson

4. Escape from the current economic climate

I decided to TEFL because the job prospects in the UK are very poor. I have been disillusioned with the UK for a number of years. I have finished a 6 month teaching contract in China and I am returning to become the foreign manager in a different city with the same school. The experience has been fantastic and will no doubt help me secure my next position overseas. My only regret is that I didn’t do this when I was younger. Stephen Underdown

I was sick to the eye teeth looking for work and getting turned down due to one thing or another, so I decided to give a TEFL course a go.  I’m currently doing an 60hr online course to top up my 20hr classroom course. John Doyle

5. The chance to make a difference

I wanted to make a difference. I am fortunate, I talk fluent English, and something I take for granted. I enjoy teaching and it’s something I can share with other people who want to learn. Claire Lawton

I want to make a difference to people working in the UK who are not native English speakers so that they, their employers and their employer’s customers get the ideal out of their experiences and to make learning fun and interesting. Maggie Currie

6. A new challenge

I came to a point in my life where I found I had no animals or relatives to look after and decided to set myself new challenges. I booked an adventure with i-to-i and the TEFL intent started then. I haven’t looked back since! Jacqui Green

7. Boredom!

Travelling is a passion of mine and I’m bored of living in such a cold, unsightly and costly country so teaching English happens to be the easiest way to keep travelling whilst simultaneously working. I’m also at a point in my life where I still haven’t found my perfect job so I’m really excited to try teaching for the first time. Alex Adkins

I’m sick of watching the world pass me by. Karl Parker

I got so fed up of working in the office environment and needed some liberation in a new exciting culture!  Fergus Logue

When you go abroad to educate, you’re often acting as the ambassador of a new culture. By being present, being yourself, and being accessible for questions, you can play an important role in educating kids about the importance of tolerance and respect for people of all nations.

Living abroad for several years will wage you with an unending flow of stories for your local students after you return home. When an educator lives abroad, they acquire appearance about themselves, and can return home to act as an ambassador for the culture they experienced. In particular, this is crucial if you lived in a Middle Eastern country. Once you’ve experienced another country, you’ll have all the tools you need to instruct young Americans to respect apiece other, to respect others, and to respect their environment.

Living in this world this day has become a pure business! Unless you know the technique of doing business it is very difficult to survive on this earth. Globalization of modern life has changed it further commercialized and complicated. Learning shopping is a necessary technique which should be acquired in the young age itself. Kids should know the value of money and how to handle it carefully to get the maximum benefit.

An art to learn in childhood

Shopping is an art to be learnt in childhood itself. Dr. Kishore, a psychologist, says, “It is the duty of the parents to begin teaching their kids the right financial values well before they become teenagers.” It is a fun to give your child some money for his first shot at shopping.

Changing trend in handling money

I remember my childhood days when I was told that it’s a sin to touch the money kept beyond our reach.

In those days no pocket money was given. Everything was given by the parents. Kids were supposed to ask their parents whatever they needed. Moreover, fear was withholding the kids from asking anything. But now things have changed. The family size is changed. Family relationships are changed. Family values are changed. Necessities have changed. Parents themselves take initiative in giving their kids money to buy things they want! Even before knowing the value of money kids are handling money which many times has led to drug addiction and other bad habits!

Five tips to instruct shopping

There is no doubt that shopping is an art to be learnt as a child. But don’t forget to accompany your child to the shop. Leave the child freely and stay out of his way.

But watch that the moral values are taught while shopping. The salesman should not cheat the child or the child should not try to cheat the salesman. Honesty should be the ideal policy.

Shopping budget

First of all, prepare a shopping list. Let the child be aware of the value of the money he is having. Help him prepare a shopping list. The cost of all his buy must be equal to or less than the amount he is having.

Decide needs

The child should be enabled to learn the difference between “NEEDS” and “WANTS.’ Some things are his needs and he must have them. Some are only his fancy “wants,” which he might think nice to have. Try to appreciate and convince your child to select the needs and wants. Prepare a list of things before starting to the shop. It is necessary that the child should not experience any disappointment.

Judge prices

The kids should know the price of things. A same product might be produced by different companies. The value of calibre and price should be taught to children. They should not be lured away by mere advertisements. They must know variations of different brands. They might be guided to buy the cheapest of the ideal quality.

Discounts

Nowadays it has become a fashion to give discounts. Look for the discounts. But it is not a good intent to buy something which is not in the prepared list just because it is sold at a discount sale.

Encourage saving habit

Saving is a goods usage that needs to be trained from a very age. Put what you have not spent in the savings box. There are many piggy banks acquirable to encourage kids in saving. Instruct values of life

Teaching shopping is an occasion to instruct kids the values of life also. Don’t grant the smoke screen of more money to blind their eyes.

Remember money or the material possessions should never blind our eyes to Truth. Money is like fire which should be handled carefully for superior purposes and never for evil!
